To print photos from your phone, a photo printer turns them into postcard prints in under a minute. The Canon SELPHY CP1500 prints a postcard in about 41 seconds and a credit card size print in about 23, then seals each one with a clear overcoat, so prints come out dry and resist water, scratches and fingerprints, and last up to 100 years in an album. You print over Wi-Fi from an iPhone, an iPad or an Android phone with the SELPHY Photo Layout app, or from USB-C and an SD card, and check each photo on its 3.5-inch screen. At 850g it travels in a bag, and an optional battery pack lets it print away from a socket.

The SELPHY uses matched ink and paper, so you buy them together. The Canon KP-108IN set covers 108 postcard prints at 100 x 148 mm in three ink cassettes of 36 prints each, and loads into the postcard cassette that comes with the printer. For an inkjet printer such as a Canon PIXMA, the Canon MP-101 is a pack of 50 A4 matte photo sheets at 170gsm, firm enough for a frame and free of glare under a lamp.

For documents, a laser printer prints sharp text quickly: the HP LaserJet 107a and the HP LaserJet M111a connect by cable, while the HP LaserJet 107w and the HP LaserJet MFP 135w add Wi-Fi so you print from your phone. An MFP such as the HP LaserJet MFP 135a also scans and copies. For colour at home, an ink tank printer such as the HP Smart Tank 516 or the Epson EcoTank L3110 refills from ink bottles and prints, scans and copies. What ink and paper does the Canon SELPHY CP1500 use?

Can I use Canon MP-101 paper in the SELPHY CP1500?

No. The Canon MP-101 is A4 matte photo paper for inkjet printers such as the Canon PIXMA. The SELPHY CP1500 prints by dye sublimation and needs SELPHY ink and paper sets such as the Canon KP-108IN.

Can the Canon SELPHY CP1500 print without a socket?

Yes, with the optional Canon battery pack. The Canon KP-108IN has an option that includes the battery pack, rated at up to 54 postcard prints per full charge.
