The Xiaomi Electric Kettle 2 is an everyday electric kettle for tea, coffee, instant drinks and hot water for cooking. It combines a 1.7L capacity, a 1800W heating plate, a seamless 304 stainless steel interior and a double-layer outer body that stays safer to touch while the water inside boils.

A full kettle holds 1.7 litres, enough for about 8 cups of 210 ml in one boil, compared with 1.5 litres and about 7 cups in the Xiaomi Electric Kettle. That means fewer refills when the whole family or a group of guests wants a hot drink at the same time.

The vertical open handle sits right next to the switch, so you set the kettle down and press the lever in one natural movement. The rounded grip is comfortable to hold, and pouring from a full kettle takes little effort.

With 1800W of rated power, the kettle heats water quickly. In Xiaomi's test at a room temperature of 24°C, a full 1.7L kettle came to the boil in about 5.5 minutes, about 2 minutes faster than a 1500W kettle, and boiling a full kettle uses about 0.2 kWh. Actual times depend on the starting water temperature and the mains voltage.

Heat comes from a thickened aluminium heating plate that spreads it evenly across the base, so the water reaches a full, rolling boil. After boiling starts, the kettle keeps heating for another 10 to 20 seconds to make sure the water is fully boiled, then switches off on its own.

Four electrical protections are built in: automatic shut-off after boiling, automatic shut-off when the kettle is switched on dry (double boil-dry protection), fuse protection and electric shock protection on the exposed parts. The metal contacts on the base are earthed. For a high-power kettle like this, Xiaomi recommends a dedicated wall socket rated at 10A or more rather than a shared power strip.

Everything the water touches is food-grade. The interior, the spout and the inner lid are 304 stainless steel, and the kettle is 100% BPA-free. The liner is a single seamless piece with no screws or solder joints, so there are no seams where limescale can collect. With no strainer at the spout and a wide opening, wiping the inside clean is quick.

The double-layer body has an insulating layer between the inner liner and the outer shell. It keeps the outside of the kettle from getting as hot as the water, which lowers the risk of burns if you touch it during or after boiling. It is an anti-scald design, not a keep-warm function: the kettle does not hold water at a set temperature.

The lid is designed to avoid splashes. Press the button and it opens slowly to about 35°, far enough to pour or top up, while drops of condensed steam run back into the kettle along a curved water collection ring instead of dripping onto your hand. Lift it further by hand to about 65° for filling and cleaning.

Small details make daily use easier. The switch lever has an indicator light that stays on until the water boils. Minimum and maximum water level marks are printed inside the liner. The power base has cord storage underneath, so the roughly 0.65 m power cord winds away neatly on the worktop.
